Media and tasks

Media and tasks of laboratories, test and metrology benches

Mass-EXPERT Coriolis flow meters handle a wide range of media — from reference liquids and R&D reagents to aviation kerosene, diesel fuel and hydraulic fluids — in laboratory practice, metrology services and on test benches.

Reference liquids for verification

Distilled and deionized water, calibration oils, silicone fluids with reference viscosity. Used as working reference standards in the verification and calibration of other types of flow meters (turbine, electromagnetic, ultrasonic).

H₂O (DI) Calibration oils Silicone

Reagents for R&D

Chemical reagents and precursors in small volumes — organic solvents, acids, alkalis, polymerization monomers, catalyst solutions. Precision dosing with an error of less than 1% is critical for the reproducibility of scientific experiments.

Solvents Monomers Catalysts

Fuels and lubricants

Aviation kerosene (TS-1, RT), gasolines, diesel fuel, oils and hydraulic fluids. Typical tasks — fuel flow measurement on test benches of aircraft and gas turbine engines, testing of fuel equipment and ICEs, reference metering in the verification of fuel dispensers and petroleum product meters.

Kerosene TS-1/RT Gasolines Diesel Oils

Special laboratory liquids

Biological buffer solutions, polymer solutions, emulsions, nanoparticle suspensions, magnetic fluids. Mass-EXPERT provides direct mass flow measurement without density calibration — important for media with variable composition.

Buffers Polymers Emulsions

Test benches and metrology installations

Coriolis flow meters are standard equipment for test benches and metrology services: mass flow is measured directly, without density conversion, and a single sensor covers most of the bench operating range.

Verification and calibration rigs

Gravimetric and flow-through rigs, compact provers, installations for the verification of flow meters and meters. Mass-EXPERT is used both as a working reference standard and as a sensor within the installation's metering lines.

Engine test benches

Aircraft and gas turbine engines: measurement of fuel (kerosene TS-1, RT) and other process media flows in the bench fuel systems, including transient modes.

Fuel equipment and ICE benches

Testing of injectors, high-pressure fuel pumps, diesel and gas equipment: low and pulsed flow rates, precision dosing, assessment of leaks and performance.

Hydraulic and cryogenic benches

Testing of components on hydraulic benches, benches with cryogenic media: sensor versions for media temperatures down to –196 °C.

Pump, compressor and valve benches

Testing of pumping and compression equipment, shut-off and control valves: flow control on the flow-through sections of the bench.

Pilot and semi-industrial installations

R&D and technology scale-up: dosing of catalysts and reagents, flow metering in pilot lines and semi-industrial installations.

Accuracy and cleanliness requirements

Laboratory, metrology and bench tasks place special demands on measuring equipment — from the highest accuracy and zero-point stability to the cleanliness of wetted surfaces and minimal influence on the measured medium.

Accuracy 0.1–0.2%

Mass flow measurement accuracy from ±0.1%.

High repeatability

Exceptional repeatability of results — a key requirement for calibration rigs and metrology laboratories. Mass-EXPERT guarantees stable readings from measurement to measurement.

Turndown ratio up to 100:1

The Mass-EXPERT range covers flow rates from 1.2 kg/h (DN01) to 1,740,000 kg/h (DN250), while each sensor covers up to a 100:1 span of its own range — fewer reference instruments are needed on the bench.

Chemical inertness

Tube materials 316L / Hastelloy C4/C276 ensure minimal interaction with the measured medium. Internal passivation Ra ≤ 0.4 µm is available for critical applications.

Advantages

Why Mass-EXPERT for laboratories, metrology and benches?

Coriolis direct mass measurement technology — the accuracy benchmark for laboratory, metrology and bench tasks

Direct mass measurement

Mass flow measurement without indirect conversions or density calibrations. The result is independent of changes in temperature, pressure, viscosity or medium composition — critical for R&D reproducibility and bench testing.

The full range — DN01 to DN250

One platform covers both micro-flows (DN01 — up to 12 kg/h) and large-capacity bench testing (DN50 — up to 39,000 kg/h, DN250 — up to 1,740,000 kg/h). Size and connections are matched to the task.

High repeatability

Stability of readings from measurement to measurement — a key requirement for calibration rigs and metrology laboratories, where reproducibility of results across repeated verifications is required.

Minimal sensor volume

The small internal volume of D-type measuring tubes eliminates losses of expensive reagents and provides fast response time — valuable when dosing micro-volumes in laboratory installations.

Compactness and ease of integration

Compact sensors (including miniature D-type ones) integrate easily into existing laboratory installations, test benches and pilot process lines without significant reconfiguration.

Digital interfaces

Support for HART, RS-485 Modbus RTU, CAN and frequency/pulse outputs for integration into automated rig data acquisition systems. Remote monitoring and control from a PC.

D type (Δ) — the benchmark for micro-flow

D type (Δ) — a measuring tube geometry for measuring low flow rates (Δ is available in DN01, DN02 and DN25). High structural rigidity combined with sensitive sensors delivers exceptional zero stability and minimal drift. In combination with the ME100 transmitter it achieves full metrological traceability for building reference calibration rigs.

Flow rate ranges

Flow range — from micro-flows to large test benches

The Mass-EXPERT range covers mass flow rates from 1.2 kg/h (DN01) to 1,740,000 kg/h (DN250). Micro and low flow rates are covered by D-type (Δ) sensors; for bench testing, verification and flow-through rigs all sizes of the range are available.

* Min. flow — at 1:10 (Qmax/10); Qmax and zero stability (Zs); the Δ type is available in DN01, DN02 and DN25 only (DN25 — up to 12,000 kg/h).
