A wide range of components for precise blending

Mass-EXPERT Coriolis flow meters are used for dosing virtually any liquids — from low-viscosity solvents to high-viscosity pastes and suspensions — in multi-stage formulation processes. A separate focus area is oil & gas and petrochemicals: dosing of corrosion and scale inhibitors, demulsifiers, methanol and glycols, hydrogen sulfide and oxygen scavengers, fuel and oil additives, as well as monomers, catalysts and polymer stabilizers.

Paints and coatings

Dosing of pigment pastes, binders, solvents, hardeners and additives for precise reproduction of the color and properties of coating materials.

Adhesives and sealants

Precision dosing of components for two-component and multi-component adhesive systems, silicones, polyurethanes, epoxy resins and acrylates.

Lubricants and greases

Dosing of oils, additives and thickeners in the production of greases and liquid lubricants, metalworking fluids and hydraulic fluids.

Chemical reagents

Dosing of acids, alkalis, catalysts, inhibitors, surfactants and modifiers for the synthesis and preparation of commercial chemical products.

Oil & gas industry

Dosing of production chemicals: corrosion, scale and hydrate inhibitors (methanol, glycols), demulsifiers, hydrogen sulfide and oxygen scavengers, and additives for production, transportation and treatment of oil and gas. Microflow from 0.1 kg/h; stable with the pulsating flow of dosing pumps.

Petrochemicals

Dosing of monomers, polymerization catalysts and initiators, inhibitors, stabilizers, plasticizers and antistatic agents in the production of polymers, rubbers and base monomers.

Typical dosing and blending processes

Mass-EXPERT is used at all stages — from feedstock supply to final compounding

Direct mass measurement — the key advantage for dosing

Traditional volumetric dosers (gear pumps, piston dosers) introduce error when viscosity, temperature or density of the medium changes. A mass flow meter measures mass itself, so the result does not depend on the thermodynamic parameters of the process. For multi-stage formulation dosing, this means consistent final product quality regardless of external conditions.

Production chemicals (oil & gas): injection of corrosion and scale inhibitors, demulsifiers, methanol and glycols (hydrate protection), hydrogen sulfide and oxygen scavengers at production, gathering and treatment facilities
Refining and petrochemicals: introduction of process chemicals and additives at refineries; dosing of monomers, catalysts, initiators, polymerization inhibitors and stabilizers
Paint and coating production: dosing of binders, pigments, fillers, solvents and functional additives in the sequence specified by the formulation
Detergent and household chemicals synthesis: supply of active substances, surfactants, fragrances, preservatives and thickeners with accuracy to fractions of a percent
Fuel and oil additives: introduction of anti-wear, antioxidant, depressant and detergent additives into base oils and fuels
Polymer compounds: blending of polyols, isocyanates, catalysts, stabilizers and plasticizers for the production of polyurethanes and epoxies

Continuous dosing

Continuous supply of a component at a set mass flow rate into the main product stream or a continuous reactor.

  • Real-time maintenance of the set flow rate
  • Cascade control with pump / valve
  • PID control via HART or Modbus
  • Flow stability ±0.1% of the setpoint
  • For processes with a constant component ratio

Batch dosing

Metering out of an exact mass of a component on a controller command to prepare a batch of product with a specified composition.

  • High-accuracy mass cutoff (preact)
  • Water hammer compensation on valve closing
  • Dosing cycle from 10 g to tons
  • Sequential / parallel dosing

Advantages

Why Mass-EXPERT for dosing?

Coriolis direct mass measurement technology — the optimal solution for precise dosing and blending applications

Direct mass measurement

Eliminates the influence of varying density, viscosity, temperature and pressure of the medium. The result always corresponds to the mass of the dosed component, not its volume.

Wide turndown ratio

Up to 100:1 — the same flow meter model can meter both small laboratory doses and large commercial batches without loss of accuracy.

Micro-dosing

Small-size DN01–DN08 sensors provide stable measurement of flow rates from 0.1 kg/h, enabling accurate dosing of expensive additives.

Configuration flexibility

U/D sensor types are available (compact, for integration into existing installations) and L-type (straight-tube, for viscous and abrasive media).

Fast response

Accurate supply cutoff in batch mode minimizes overshoot and deviation from the set dose.

Stable under pulsating flow

The stroke-wise supply of plunger and piston dosing pumps does not translate into measurement error: the meter measures the mass passing through the sensor, so the total dose per shift, day or month is accurate.

Minimal maintenance

No moving parts, no doser calibration required when changing products, no mechanical wear. Reduced operating costs.

Wide turndown ratio — fewer sizes to stock

Thanks to a turndown ratio of up to 100:1, a single Mass-EXPERT sensor covers the range that would require 2-3 conventional flow sensors. This reduces the spare parts inventory, simplifies logistics and lowers the total cost of ownership. For example, a DN25 sensor covers flow rates from 10 to 1,000 kg/h — enough for most tasks of batch dosing of medium volumes.

Selection recommendations

Optimal configurations for dosing applications

Proven combinations of sizes, sensor types and transmitters for typical dosing and blending applications

Small sizes DN01–DN08 (micro-doses)

For ultra-low flow rates — addition of additives, catalysts, fragrances and dyes in laboratory and industrial conditions.

  • Ideal for expensive and active additives
  • Compact U/D type for integration into installations
  • Accuracy ±0.2% for ultra-small doses

U/D sensor types

Compact dual-tube U-shaped sensors — the optimal balance of accuracy and dimensions for dosing applications.

  • High sensitivity at low flow rates
  • Compact design for confined spaces
  • From DN01 to DN80 for various ranges
  • Standard tube materials: 316L / Hastelloy
  • Recommended for batch dosing

ME100 / ME200 transmitters

Modern dual-channel transmitters supporting all dosing and blending modes.

  • ME200 — advanced model: HART, Modbus RS-485
  • Built-in mass totalizer for batch mode
  • Preact and overshoot compensation function

Integrated dosing solutions

A complete control loop: sensor + transmitter + shutoff and control valves under the control of an external PLC or the built-in ME200 controller.

  • Ready-made dosing control cabinets
  • Integration with the plant APCS
  • Logging of every dose with a timestamp
  • Process visualization in a SCADA system

Recommended configuration for batch dosing

For most batch component dosing applications, the optimal combination is: U/D-type sensor (DN08-DN25 for medium doses, DN01-DN04 for micro-doses) + ME200 transmitter with Modbus support. If high-accuracy thermal stabilization of the medium is required, complement the configuration with an isothermal jacket. For continuous dosing with PID control, an L-type sensor (straight-tube) with an ME100/ME200 transmitter and a 4–20 mA HART analog output is recommended.

Economics

What inaccurate dosing costs

Overconsumption of components and batch rework are continuous losses. Estimate your own numbers and see how fast accurate mass measurement pays back.

Calculator: dosing and blending

Enter your own numbers — the calculation updates automatically. Numeric input only; the default values are an example.

Example: 500 batches with 700 USD of components each = 350,000 USD per year; 3% overconsumption ≈ 10,500 USD/year — payback in ≈ 7 months.
